Questions, answered
What are UTM parameters?
Five tags added to the end of a web address: utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content and utm_term. Analytics tools such as Google Analytics read them when someone arrives, so a visit is credited to the newsletter, post or flyer that sent it.
Which ones do I need?
Source, medium and campaign. Content and term are optional: content tells two links in the same placement apart, and term records a paid-search keyword.
Is anything sent to ShortZen while I type?
No. The tagged link is built in this browser tab. It leaves the tab only if you choose to shorten it, and then only into the account you create.
What if my address already has a UTM tag?
It is kept as written and the builder adds only the tags the address does not have, the same rule a ShortZen link follows when it adds its own tags.
Why shorten a tagged link?
A tagged address is long and easy to break when it is pasted or printed. A short link hides the tags, opens the tagged address, and shows its own clicks by country and device. A free account can also save 3 sets of tags to reuse.
See which campaign brought the clicks
A short link in an account counts its own clicks by country and device, on top of the tags your analytics reads.
